WHAT IS TAKESHI'S CASTLE?
Takeshi's Castle started off as a Japanese gameshow from May 1986 until October 1990 and has since been aired around the world including a new modern remakes. The original show was filmed at Midoriyama Studios in Japan, now home to SASUKE (also known as Ninja Warrior).
On each episode, Count Takeshi guards his own castle and invites contestants to compete in crucial challenges guarded by Hayato Tani. As contestants complete each challenge successfully, they are one step-closer to beating the Count in the final show down. The top prize is 1 million yen if anyone manages to storm the castle.
The show became very popular at the time and still is to this day thanks to reruns regularly aired on TBS2 along with streaming in Japan. The show is also popular around the world (abilt shortened down with a local voiceover or subbed), so popular that a reboot began streaming from April 2023 with new games and new cast members.
In the reboot, there are four guards of the castle and contestants will defeat one of the guards with both brand new and remakes of popular games. It plays exactly the same, however, anyone who fails a game will take part in one of 3 pre-selected comeback games in order to return to the show.
